April 20, 2012 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Students from St. Margaret Mary School on Chicago's Far North Side took part in a fishy Earth Day celebration.
(Ed: This effort was sponsored by our chapter and has been spearheaded by Mike Jacobs from its inception.)
The students raised rainbow trout in their classroom since they were eggs, and Friday, they released them.
Representative Jan Schakowsky was on hand for the event and pointed out recent progress made in anti-mercury pollution efforts. The fish were released from the beach at Loyola Park. The students raised the fish through a program with Trout Unlimited.
