September Chapter Meeting

Please join us at Pizzeria Serio for our September meeting. Please note the date change from our usual first Tuesday of the month timing. Mike Allen and Captain Kurt Nelson, owners of Midwest Waters Angling, will join us and provide their insights on fishing Midwest waters, including the DuPage River, Kankankee River, Kishwaukee River, Des Plaines River, Fox River, Rock River, and Illinois River Tributaries. Their presentation will take us through the seasons of fly fishing for smallmouth bass, with a focus on the fall feeding frenzy.

A native of Illinois, Mike Allen grew up along the local banks of the DuPage River. He was lucky enough to have a father who put a fly rod in his hands at a young age. He now makes his home in the Fox River Valley, close to his home waters of the Fox and DuPage Rivers, just two of the many watersheds in Northern Illinois that he has come to know and love. Mike has fished all these rivers extensively over his lifetime and looks forward to sharing these truly special waters with you. He enjoys all kinds of fishing, but specializes in warm water fly fishing for native Smallmouth Bass, Carp, and Pike.

Kurt Nelson is a Coast Guard Captain Merchant Mariner. Kurt grew up in the Fox River Valley in the western suburbs of Chicago. He was fortunate to have an excellent smallmouth fishery in his hometown. Kurt has been fishing the waters of Northern Illinois his entire life, while also venturing around the Midwest in search of trophy fish. He has excellent knowledge of the fishing seasons in the Midwest and the fly patterns that catch fish.

Chapter Meetings Details:

• When: September 11th, 2024
• Location: Pizzeria Serio, 1708 W. Belmont, Chicago.
• Directions: Upon entering the main dining area of Pizzeria Serio, take the stairs on the left to reach our private second-floor space.
• Parking: Plenty of street parking is available on Belmont and side streets. Reminder: Do not park on the north side of Belmont before 6:00 p.m.
• Agenda: 6:00 pm: Social Hour - A warm setting where attendees reminisce, share fishing tales, discuss conservation, and more. 6:45 pm: Dinner - Delight in a buffet that boasts a salad, Pizzeria Serio's renowned brick oven pizza, and other treats. The cost stands at $30 per person. ~7:15 pm: Speaker
