Overview:

Immerse yourself in the rich history and superb fishing of Grayling, Michigan, the birthplace of Trout Unlimited. Stay in the century-old Wa Wa Sum Lodge, located right on the 'Holy Waters' of the Au Sable River. This five-day trip offers an unparalleled opportunity to fish across the diverse branches of the Au Sable and Upper Manistee Rivers, including the chance to experience the renowned Brown Drake and Hex hatches.


Activities:

    Explore all three branches of the Au Sable and the Upper Manistee, with opportunities to fish for various species and in different hatches.

    Experience the legacy of Trout Unlimited while relaxing in the same rocking chairs on the Wa Wa Sum Lodge porch where its founders once sat.

    Enjoy catered breakfasts and dinners, perfect for starting and ending your fishing days.

Lodging:

The Wa Wa Sum Lodge offers a rustic and historical setting with shared bedrooms and bathrooms, accommodating both couples and individuals.


Pricing:

The cost of the trip in 2025 is $270. We should have a trip cost for 2026 in a few weeks. Advance payment is required. The cost includes lodging Wednesday through Sunday (4 nights). This also includes a donation to Michigan State University (which owns the lodge) and its fisheries program.


Travel:

The lodge is approximately a 5.5-hour drive from Chicago, making it an accessible retreat for a long weekend.
